On 8 April 2024, a total solar eclipse crossed North America. Taken from Port Maitland, Ontario, this image shows the brilliant flash marking the end of totality, often referred to as the diamond ring phase. Fast‑moving clouds partly obscured the Sun and Moon, scattering the emerging sunlight into a mix of warm and cool tones. The clouds emphasised the Moon’s sharply defined black disk, creating a visual effect rarely seen in total solar eclipse photographs.
