Nothing (Not For Rent), Alabama, USA, 2013

Inquire About Print

Nothing (Not For Rent) was photographed in rural Alabama in 2013. The billboard keeps the form of an advertisement, but replaces persuasion with refusal: “NOTHING,” with the smaller “NOT FOR RENT” below.

The message is defiant because it answers a familiar roadside economy of false promises, paid help, and commercial pressure without offering another claim in return. It does not sell, plead, or explain. It marks the exploitation as recognized and rejected.
