Photographed at 3:20 AM EST on March 14, 2025, this Blood Moon total lunar eclipse was captured in rare winter stillness above Georgian Bay, just before clouds swept in. I combined 40 images shot at a 700mm focal length to reduce noise and atmospheric distortion, revealing the Moon’s texture. The Moon’s copper-red hue appears only during a total lunar eclipse, when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align precisely. As Earth’s atmosphere filters sunlight, shorter wavelengths scatter, allowing only red and orange light to reach the Moon’s surface.

The last full Moon in March is known as a Worm Moon. It marks the end of winter, symbolizing the turning of seasons and the softening of the Earth.

Across cultures and centuries, the sudden appearance of a Blood Moon has been interpreted as an omen of transformation, disruption, or awakening. People have long projected their hopes and fears onto such phenomena, especially in times of uncertainty and change.
