Photography and Digital ArtPeter Adamson, Bret Culp, John Long & Mira Zdjelar Leonardo Galleries, Toronto, Canada
Photography and Digital Art This exhibition is a presentation by four photographers each exploring a different theme. Adamson’s recent work has focused on the interplay of line, shape, form and colour. While the subjects are secondary and the aesthetics primary, his motive is to pry the viewer away from winter and dream of summer. Culp's poetic black and white photographs of Italy and Ireland reveal the beauty of impermanence. Long’s life long passion for photography, both stereo 3D and mono is evident in his work. He is delighted to present this latest exhibition using medium format film with 3D images that possess a sharpness and depth that will captivate the viewer and at the same time his panoramic work exemplifies diversity in many ways. Zdjelar’s presentation is a collection of urban fragments taken in silent protest against the reductionist spectacle of advertising billboards, hoping to open the doors towards a richer reality that lies beyond.

Roots creep over rock searching for refuge and nourishment, neglected bricks and mortar crumble under the elements and return to the earth, a mountain is slowly devoured by the sea forming a precipice – these are photographs of matter governed by time chosen to illustrate the relentless determination of nature, the beauty in impermanence, and the eternal cycle of creation out of destruction. MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY INTERNATIONAL CHARITY EXHIBITIONCuritiba,
Brazil
SPIDER FELLOWS DONATE AWARD WINNING WORK More than 60 major works by contemporary photography masters were on exhibition and up for auction at the inaugural Masters of Photography International Charity Exhibition on Saturday, October 28th, in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. The exhibition was presented by World Photographic Arts and featured Black & White Spider Awards and International Color Awards photographers who have donated their award winning prints to raise money for Art for Disabled Children and benefit the APADEH children's day school in Curitiba. Basil O’Brien the curator of the exhibition and Creative Director of the award programs said, "To be able to show these stunning works for the first time as one collection is a great privilege. We are grateful to all photographers around the globe who have come together for such a good cause." Among guests in attendance at this high profile event were state and local government officials, corporate heads and national press. The Brazilian TV personality Maria Pia presented the evenings ceremonies and interviewed guests for her TV and production company. The exhibition raised money to build an Activity Center for APADEH (Associão Paranaense para o Desenvolvimento do Potencial), a school that provides education in a fully integrated environment for children with and without special needs. The school is based in Curitiba in the south of Brazil. |

Bret Culp has recently won a Spider Award for his feature photograph Strength, whose symbolism ties in with his recent personal experiences in life and philosophies about the strength of the human will and fortitude of our fragile bodies. John Long has a compelling series done in stereo photography, a rare and historic technique of viewing images in three-dimension. John Long is a man of infinite love of historic techniques, methods, equipment and aesthetic. He’s an informative and charismatic individual who enthrals his audience. CONVERGENCE 4343rd Annual Juried Exhibition Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery, Owen Sound, Canada
This exhibition is one of the most popular events on the Tom Thomson Art Gallery calendar. It is an opportunity to survey current visual arts practice by a wide range of artists, from graduating students to senior members of the visual arts community, in all fine art media including the traditional: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture; as well as the contemporary craft media and time-based formats. The exhibition aims to reward excellence and innovation in artistic production. Since this annual show "takes the pulse" of art making in the region, we look for work that exemplifies what makers are thinking about- contemporary artists' concerns, working methods, and methods of exploration. This year the Gallery has assembled a strong jury to select the exhibition from works submitted from all over Ontario. Celebrated painter and visual artist Alan Glicksman had a much-lauded exhibition at Engine Gallery in Toronto in Fall 2005 and recently relocated to Owen Sound. Printmaker and multi-media artist Steven White from Walter's Falls is represented by Edward Day Gallery in Toronto. Dr. Katharine Lochnan, the R. Fraser Elliott Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto recently produced the blockbuster exhibition Turner Whistler Monet and the touring show David Milne Watercolours: "Painting Toward the Light" that opens at the AGO in February.
