An Award-Winning Visual Effects Supervisor/Producer and Second Unit Director, Bret Culp has contributed to 60 feature films, miniseries, and television shows with more than 25 years of industry experience.
After attending the Film and Photography program at Ryerson University in Toronto, Bret quickly worked his way to Senior Artist at several top Toronto production companies. He helped design and create distinguished commercials, motion graphics and title sequences for Coca-Cola, The Discovery Channel and the Emmy nominated TekWar miniseries opening, to name a few.
In 1994, William Shatner and partners formed C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures and asked Bret to join and later head up the visual effects division. In the company's 16 years they contributed cutting edge visual effects to 120 films and television projects.
As Visual Effects Supervisor, Bret has directed his teams to create breathtaking visual effects on projects such as the critically acclaimed The Expanse, Stephen King's Gerald's Game, Edward Burtynsky's Watermark, the epic miniseries Camelot, IMAX: Hubble 3D, Silent Hill, Saw 2, and Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Bret was second unit director and the Visual Effects Supervisor on the Showtime hit The Tudors, for which he received two Best Visual Effects Gemini Awards and two more nominations over the four-year run of the show. He is a sought-after lecturer and juror, holds positions on numerous advisory committees and is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) as well as the Visual Effects Society (VES).
